Welcome to the "Latest News" section of the site. Here is where you will find all the latest information from Leigh Dunstan and "Dunleigh Stables".

March 2008

After a non-existent 2007 show season, due to Equine Influenza, Leigh was very busy from the start of the 2008 season. Leigh gave two informative Showing Seminars –firstly for the Hidden Valley Riding Club and later for the Irish Sporthorse Association. It’s interesting that horses used as demonstration models in both clinics emerged a few weeks later as Barastoc and Royal Show Champions.

Barastoc HOTY 2008

Congratulations to Michelle Duggan and her beautiful pinto mare DUNLEIGH CENTRE STAGE -a horse found by Leigh in a trail riding centre less than a year ago! At Barastoc (her first EVER show) she was Champion Newcomer Pinto, Champion Ridden Pinto Over 14hh and Reserve Champion Led Pinto Mare. Michelle also won the HRCAV Level 4 Smartest On Parade with her mare the following day. A few weeks later at the Royal Melbourne Horse Show, this superb mare went Reserve Champion Led and Ridden Pinto.

Congratulations to Tahnee and Kelsey Pfeiffer and their extremely pretty Welsh “B” mare MITHREL MAMSELLE.  Shown by Leigh, the mare was the Barastoc Reserve Supreme Led Welsh B Exhibit.

Congratulations to Puchi Stern, Natasha Dixon and Robyn Jones who all gained Barastoc HRCAV wins.

Royal Melbourne Horse Show 2008

Congratulations to all of Leigh’s clients who gained Champions, Reserves , wins and placings over the four day show. Leigh showed winners of four Championships and five Reserves.

Congratulations to Loriot Stud and their beautiful Palomino Stallion LORIOT ROYAL DOULTON  - Supreme Led Palomino, Champion Ridden Palomino and Top Seven All-Breeds Champion of the show.

LORIOT PEEK A BOO, a beautiful Palomino yearling filly took all before her to win Champion Palomino Mare.

Congratulations to seven year old Jemma Reeves-Singles and her pony SKELTY PARK OLIVER- winners of the Welsh Leading Rein at Barastoc and Melbourne, where Oliver also won Reserve Champion Leading Rein Pony.

Congratulations to Rosemary Garoni and her superb Buckskin stallion MOONDYNE BUCCANEER- Supreme Champion Buckskin. This amazing pony has made this class his own in recent years.

New Stables

Dunleigh Stables are currently setting up a base in the heart of Thoroughbred country – in the picturesque Kerrie Valley just out of Romsey, Victoria. More news soon!

Newcomer Hack Joins The Team

Leigh has purchased an interesting newcomer small hack –KORDELLA PARK MAYFAIR.

Leigh feels that this horse shows enormous potential. He is very well bred , being out of a Galloway Of The Year and carries the bloodlines of the Multi-Royal Show Champion ROTHERWOOD FOOTLIGHT (imp) – a stallion that Leigh showed for Melbourne Led and Ridden Championships. Watch for him in the 2008 show season!

Summer Royal Melbourne Horse Show 2007

A fantastic strike rate – six ponies shown for clients for two Championships and four Reserves. Congratulations particularly to Rosemary Garoni. Her beautiful stallion “Moondyne Buccaneer” was not only Champion Buckskin Stallion (for the 2nd year running) but also Reserve Champion Welsh Mountain Stallion. Her consistent mare “Moondyne Honey Hush” was Reserve Champion Welsh Mountain Mare.

Pauline and Caroline Alker’s superb homebred mare “Barrington Showgirl” was Reserve Champion Part APSB Exhibit in 2006 but this year went one better by winning Champion Part-Welsh Exhibit in an extremely large and strong section. The pony is destined for a saddle career with Tahnee Pfeiffer (one of Leigh’s best junior riders) who was Champion Junior Handler and Most Successful Junior at the recent Victorian Welsh Feature Show.

Congratulations to Carol Easton-Bond and her very impressive yearling Welsh filly “Glenhaven Park Isabella”. Leigh showed the filly to not only win Reserve Champion Welsh Filly at the Summer Show but Supreme Welsh Exhibit a week later at the Victorian Stud Pony Show.

Barastoc HOTY 2007

Congratulations to Norma Hollibone and her remarkable pony “Barina Endeavour” winner of the Show Hunter Pony Of The Year. Leigh originally showed this highly successful pony for Norma to win over a dozen Royal, Barastoc and Vic Stud Pony Championships before handing him over to his current rider Abby Heffer- a rider Leigh originally trained for her first rider championships and first Royal Show wins.

Congratulations also to Julie Barr and her delightful palomino Welsh Mountain Stallion “Daintree Flashdance”. Leigh showed this pony for a Champion and Reserve Champion at Barastoc as well as Champion at the Victorian Stud Pony Show in January.

HRCAV Rider Successes

Many HRCAV riders trained by Leigh have had a host of wins over the Summer.

Congratulations to Rose Nott and her brilliant palomino stockhorse mare “Moonyar  Solitaire”. The partnership not only won Champion Ridden Mount (Level 5) at the Royal Melbourne Horse Show but was also very successful in the Level 5 Championships at Barastoc, finishing with an overall Reserve Champion Level 5 for the day. Well Done Rose!

Congratulations to Jacinta Redmayne who took out the Champion Level 3 HRCAV Rider at the Summer Royal and second in the Smartest On Parade at both the Royal and Barastoc. Jacinta was also recently Champion Open Rider at the Tullamarine Horse Show in March.

Sharon Pilcher’s reliable Clydie x “Charlie Armani” won the Reserve Champion Level 5 Mount at the Summer Royal and Sharon was Reserve Champion Level 4 Rider.

Congratulations also to Robyn Jones (Reserve Champion Rider Level 4 –TTT Showing) and Natasha Dixon and her ever consistent horse “D.P. Navajo” (Reserve Champion Level 1 Mount – TTT Showing) and Puchi Stern and her beautiful Andalusian winning the Level 2 Show Hunter at TTT Showing in a huge class

"Leigh Dunstan has been training my horses for the past 5 years. I trust Leigh implicitly to get results.

Living in town I rely on Leigh to exercise and train my horse when I'm not there.

My horse has become increasingly responsive and supple under Leigh's training and guidance, this has been reflected in positive competition results.

In 2006 Leigh helped us prepare for the Summer Royal, he assisted in all aspects of preparation and was there on the day to guide me through.

He told me we would win our rider class and we did." - Puchi Dunne, Bullengarook ARC
